
Kenya joined the rest of the world in marking International Women’s Day under the theme “Empower Every Woman: Equality, Progress, Inclusion. “The theme underscores the significance of universal rights and opportunities, ensuring that women and girls contribute to a more equitable society.
The Government of Kenya reaffirmed its commitment to fostering gender equality, empowerment, and inclusion through various initiatives aimed at enhancing the well-being of women and girls.
Among the key programs is the revamped ‘Linda Mama Program’ under the ‘Social Health Authority (SHA),’ which now provides expanded benefits for expectant mothers. The initiative ensures comprehensive healthcare support throughout pregnancy, delivery, and postnatal care, safeguarding both mothers and their newborns.
Additionally, through the ‘Community Health Program,’ grassroots women can now access essential screening and referral services, improving early disease detection and prevention efforts.
The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with County Governments and development partners, continues to address the ‘Triple Threat’ affecting young people new HIV infections, teen pregnancies, and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). These efforts seek to protect vulnerable groups and promote a safer, healthier environment for adolescents.
A major highlight of this year’s celebrations was the ‘High-Level Conversation on Beijing @30,’ hosted by Homa Bay Governor, Gladys Wanga. The event brought together women leaders from various sectors to reflect on progress made since the historic **Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, while setting new goals to advance gender equality in Kenya.
As the world marks this significant day, Kenya continues to make strides in ensuring that women and girls are empowered, included, and given equal opportunities to thrive.
